Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) assist the doctors in appointments, with client consultation, surgery, treatment, run laboratory tests, fill prescriptions and are certified laser therapists, dental technicians and radiographers.
Brent, RVT & Willow
We welcomed Brent to our practice in 2015 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. He graduated from the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology, Denver, Colorado in 2014 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. In Denver he worked in a surgery specialty practice before returning to Kansas. He also holds a Registered Veterinary Technician certification in Kansas. Brent is a knowledgeable anesthetist and he enjoys taking care of our surgical patients in addition to all the other aspects of patient care.
Brent and his fiancé live happily in Kansas and enjoy spending time in the out of doors, especially kayaking the many local lakes and rivers. When they are not on an outdoor adventure, they are spending quality time with family. They have three pets, Echo, a Shiba Inu and Willow, a Boxer mix both whom were raised from puppyhood. They also have a shorthair cat named Cleo that runs their household.
Callie, RVT & Howie
We welcomed Callie to our hospital in 2008 as a kennel attendant. She rejoined our practice as an assistant technician in 2013 while attending the Brown Mackie College School of Veterinary Technology, Lenexa, Kansas. In April 2016 she earned a Registered Veterinary Technician certification.
Callie shares her home with her 2 longhair dachshunds. She enjoys going to the dog park, kayaking, and spending time with friends and family. She is a Lawrence native and enjoys all our town has to offer.
She likes working at Lawrence Veterinary Hospital because of our high standards of care, extensive services, the family atmosphere and the opportunity to share her expertise with our clients. She is always thinking of ways to go above and beyond the standard of care for our clients. She is enthused by how veterinary medicine is always growing and changing and learning new ways to share with our clients the best way to care for their pets.
We welcomed Christi to our hospital in the beginning of 2018 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Brown Mackie (Salina, KS) in 2012 with her Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology. She then passed her national board exam to become an RVT.
Christi shares her home with 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 15 chickens. She has a Jack Russell Terrier named Eva who is exceedingly smart and also a Pekingese named Bella who is super sweet. One of her cats, Tony Stark, is an indoor cat who loves to eat things that he shouldn’t – he has a tendency to ingest objects, which has led to 3 foreign-body-removal surgeries so far! Her other cat, Mama, was a resident of the property when she purchased her home. Mama had no interest in finding new territory, so Mama came with the house. When Christi purchased her home, it was even written in to the realty contract that Mama came with the house for the new family to take care of! Christi loves all of her pets. She also shares her home with her significant other and her two children in Auburn, Kansas. Christi was born and raised in Topeka.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family. This includes baking, playing with the kids, and cheering her son on at soccer games. Her professional interests in veterinary medicine include animal behavior. She is Fear-Free Certified (link to https://fearfreepets.com/ ) and offers kind and compassionate care to our patients. Christi is working toward becoming certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in the field of behavior. This is a long process, but worth it! Christi raised two German Shepherds and now has a Jack Russell – she is very familiar with highly intelligent and highly trainable breeds and loves caring for them in the hospital, along with all of our patients.
Ellen, Tech Assistant & Sawyer, Zira, Molly
We welcomed Ellen to our hospital in 2017 as a Veterinary Technician Assistant. Ellen is currently attending the Colby Community College’s Veterinary Technician Program and is planning to graduate with her associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology in 2019, at which time she will take the national board exam to become an RVT.
Ellen has a special interest in animal behavior and training. One of her favorite things to do is training dogs. She is currently competing in Agility and Novice Rally as well as Basic Obedience. Ellen and her significant other have three Siberian Huskies that they absolutely love and adore: Sawyer, Zira, and Molly. They are wonderfully well-behaved dogs, thanks to positive reinforcement training.
When Ellen and her spouse are not busy training dogs or studying, they love to go on adventures such as taking their huskies hiking on new trails or to the Mutt Run Off-Leash Dog Park at Clinton Lake
